　　《基礎英語教程》第三、四冊是根據(jù)教育部最新大綱編寫的，教材體現(xiàn)了高校英語專業(yè)基礎英語教學的改革成果。新大綱規(guī)定，英語教學無論在形式和內(nèi)容上，都應反映時代特色，都應具有創(chuàng)新精神。在形式上，本教材要求任課教師使用交際法授課，將以往精讀課的單向交流，即教師的一言堂，改為教師和學生之間的雙向交流，盡可能加大學生的參與。本教材注重對學生的綜合能力和各種英語技巧的培養(yǎng)，即教師通過聽向?qū)W生提供閱讀課文所需要的信息，學生之間通過討論理解課文，學生通過寫作加深對課文及課文涉及話題的理解。該教學方法的使用改變了以往精讀課單純強調(diào)語法結(jié)構(gòu)分析及詞匯使用的弊端，使學生在理解課文文字表面意義的基礎上，結(jié)合自己的背景知識和切身經(jīng)歷，通過與同伴的討論加深對文章作者的深層含義的理解，使他們的學習從淺層空間發(fā)展到深層空間。在內(nèi)容上，取消了以往精讀教材中的句型替換練習，增加了口語練習和討論。在每一課的開始是“warm-up”練習，旨在活躍課堂氣氛，為學生對下面課文的理解做準備。課文則都是難度適中、未經(jīng)過改寫的文章，以便學生感受到真實的英語，避免他們對現(xiàn)實生活中使用語言的錯誤推斷。名家名篇和能反映當代英語特點的文章同時使用，使學生既能學習和欣賞經(jīng)典作品中優(yōu)美嚴謹?shù)恼Z言，又能從當代作家的作品中感受到英語的時代氣息，從而對英語語言的發(fā)展有充分的認識。課文所涉及的主題涵蓋新大綱中所要求的主題，并能反映學生的學習生活和興趣，以提高他們的參與程度。課后練習的設計也本著實用的原則，除了幫助學生鞏固已有的語法和語言知識，還幫助他們熟悉面臨的英語專業(yè)四級考試的形式，如聽寫、完形填空、多項選擇等。練習還加入了適合中國學生學習習慣的內(nèi)容，如名篇背育，其目的的是提高學生的欣賞水平和英語語感。
