The social economy of China is in the period of deep transition: from the old agricultural society to modern industrial society, from the traditional planned economic system to modern market economy. Moreover, building a well-off society in an all-round way and advancing socialist modernization have become objectives that Chinese will realize in the early 21st century. In the new era, consumption and institutions have been hotspots of economic research in China.Though, there are some articles involved in consumption institutions once in a while, they don' t make deep impression for all of us, which originate from the lack of research in detail and systematically. On the other hand, many existing problems have been encountered in transitional period, such as increasing unemployment, widening income gap, insufficient effective demand, as well as unharmoniousness between economic development and social development, urban and rural development, man and nature etc. In the context, at the angle of institutional economics, main thread from controlling consumption, stimulating consumption to sustainable consumption, objectives as consumption institutions and its changes over 50 years in China, It is significant not only in theoretical development, but also for China to build a well-off society in an all-around way and to promote social economy sustainable development completely. Building on consumption economics and institutional economics, consumption institutions and its analysis framework have been deduced through reviewing literatures related to consumption and institutions. Then the evolutionary inevitability of consumption institutions from controlling consumption, stimulating consumption to the exploration of sustainable consumption have been researched in my dissertation.
