語(yǔ)序是語(yǔ)言表義的一個(gè)重要手段。當(dāng)一個(gè)名詞短語(yǔ)中的名詞中心語(yǔ)受多個(gè)前置修飾語(yǔ)修飾時(shí)，這幾個(gè)前置修飾語(yǔ)之間的相對(duì)位置次序雖然有時(shí)似乎具有一定的靈活性，但在大多數(shù)情況下卻較為固定，呈現(xiàn)出一定的規(guī)律性。有時(shí)，位置的不同可能帶來(lái)意義上的不同。例如，Quirk et al（1985：1341）指出，在英語(yǔ)中，diny English books是指弄臟的英語(yǔ)書，而English dirty books更有可能指的是英語(yǔ)淫穢書籍。那么，在英漢兩種語(yǔ)言中，多項(xiàng)前置修飾語(yǔ)的慣用句法位置次序究竟有哪些相似和不同之處？次序的異同表達(dá)了哪些語(yǔ)義和語(yǔ)用功能？其背后的認(rèn)知理?yè)?jù)又是什么？這些都是值得深入探討的問(wèn)題，毛薇博士在《英漢多項(xiàng)前置修飾語(yǔ)次序的認(rèn)知功能探索》中所要研究的正是這些問(wèn)題。在總結(jié)和歸納前人研究的基礎(chǔ)上，作者通過(guò)對(duì)自己收集的大量帶有多項(xiàng)前置修飾語(yǔ)的英漢描述性名詞短語(yǔ)實(shí)例語(yǔ)料的分析，從認(rèn)知功能的角度深入分析和研究了多項(xiàng)前置修飾語(yǔ)排序的認(rèn)知過(guò)程和一般排序原則。
