《葛傳椝英文學(xué)習(xí)法》所收文章多出自《葛傳椝英文集》（Man and Student）第一集，書中最后四篇“On the Europeanization of the Chinese Language”，“Some Fragments of Pai Chü-I’s Poetry Concerning Women”，“Some Longer English Lyrics”和“How to Study English”則出自《葛傳椝英文集》第三集。每一篇文章都可以獨(dú)立閱讀，文后輔以葛先生自己的注釋，便于理解和學(xué)習(xí)，深入淺出，中學(xué)生即能讀懂。
作者簡介
葛傳椝（1906-1992），復(fù)旦大學(xué)教授，上世紀(jì)50年代復(fù)旦大學(xué)英語語言文學(xué)系“三巨頭”之一。幼時家境清貧，初中輟學(xué)后，自學(xué)英語。1921年考入上海電報(bào)傳習(xí)所，翌年至崇明縣立中學(xué)任教。1925年起任上海商務(wù)印書館英語編輯，直至八一三中日淞滬戰(zhàn)爭爆發(fā)。任職其間發(fā)現(xiàn)很多英語單詞的中文詞意義相同，而英語的習(xí)慣表述卻差異很大，即以6年時間編寫《英語習(xí)慣用法詞典》，于1942年出版，是為中國人編寫的第一部英語慣用法詞典。在查閱《簡明牛津詞典》（The Concise Oxford Dictionary of Current English）時，發(fā)現(xiàn)其中不少錯誤，即致信詞典主編英人福勒（H. W. Fowler），為福勒所欽佩。之后，為中華書局、競文書局編寫英語讀本。1945年起任教于上海光華大學(xué)。中華人民共和國成立后，接上級教育主管單位命令，1951年光華大學(xué)與大夏大學(xué)合并成立華東師范大學(xué)，繼續(xù)在此執(zhí)教至1954年，繼而調(diào)往復(fù)旦大學(xué)外文系任教，直至1986年退休。1992年7月在上海逝世。著有久負(fù)盛名的《英漢四用詞典》、《新英漢詞典》（主要編纂者之一），以及《英語慣用法詞典》、《英語寫作》，被學(xué)界譽(yù)為一代宗師，為中國英語教育界先驅(qū)之一。
