內(nèi)容簡介

English language has shortened the gaps between countries. Nowadays, it is very trendy to focus primarily on communicative skills while neglecting writing as a method of learning English. Though it is essential to make yourself understood in speech, writing as such is at least as important as the ability to speak. The more written exercises you do, the more youll be able to see correspondences of English, not to mention the fact that nowadays written English is one of the main tools of workplace communication (e.g. emails or online chat). It is quite embarrassing to make spelling or other type of mistakes in your own language, especially in written language. Owing to the unawareness of differences between English and Chinese, some of young Chinese students frequently make some awkward and embarrassing mistakes in their English composition. English writing, as a consequence, is a comparatively formidable challenge for some Chinese students who are even able to make fluent expressions in their oral English. However, it does not necessarily mean that oral expressions and written expressions in English are totally different, and that Chinese students can never write a handsome English composition. On Writing effectively, to a great extent, is aimed to help young Chinese students avoid possible mistakes and make effective expressions in their English writing. In the book, effectiveness is truly highlighted from the very beginning to the end. Effectiveness refers to an effect that is exhibited not only in correctness of the grammar but also in fluency of the expressions as well as reasonability of the overall arrangement. The effective diction, for instance, requires the appropriate word in a certain context, specifically speaking, the choice and usage of a word should be correlated with a words denotation, and syntagmatic and paradigmatic relation with other items in a sentence. The effective sentence, for another instance, demands unity, coherence, and emphasis. Moreover, effectiveness will be demonstrated in each section with examples.
